Anyone who’s gone through chronic Lyme disease knows the medical treatments themselves often elicit a temporary healing crisis (commonly called a “Herxheimer” reaction) that leaves them feeling worse as the spirochetes are killed off and flood the body with toxins.
But what can rival the physical symptoms of Lyme is the unrelenting emotional and psychological anguish that it causes.
Lyme sufferers carefully hone their coping mechanisms (and acting skills) in an effort to hide their emotional struggles and pretend things are better than they actually are.
No matter if you’ve been chronically ill with Lyme for months or years, the road to recovery can leave you feeling alone and like there’s nowhere to turn. This can hinder the healing process.
Feelings of loneliness and isolation can have a profound impact on one’s mental health, leading to psychiatric manifestations such as depression, anxiety, panic, and in severe cases, even suicidal ideation.
A recent study by New Jersey psychiatrist Dr. Robert Bransfield, published in the peer-reviewed journal Neuropsychiatric Disease and Treatment, suggests that suicidal thoughts in Lyme disease patients may provide context for an uptick in suicides across the U.S. in recent years.
Out of more than 44,000 suicides an estimated “1,200 of those suicides – as well as more than 14,000 incidents of self-harm and 31,000 suicide attempts – may be attributed to Lyme and associated diseases each year,” says Dr. Bransfield.
This startling statistic reveals a sad truth that those suffering in silence from Lyme disease need better access to resources and judgment-free Lyme support groups to know they are not alone.
You don’t have to go through this healing journey feeling invalidated or hopeless. Instead, seek out those who understand your invisible illness, or better yet, surround yourself with people who have come out the other side (click to read full recovery testimonials) and have proven there IS a way out.
Even if your body seems “broken,” your spirit is still whole – and your body is capable of extraordinary healing!
It’s these chronic bottled-up emotions–grief, fear, resentment, depression, as well as past unresolved trauma–that can cause further damage to our physical and mental health. This stress knocks down our greatest self-defense mechanism–our immune system–and fuels the disease even more by stoking our body’s inflammatory response.
There is a way to break the cycle, but it means dealing with both sides of the coin: both pathogenic and emotional aspects can help you undo years of disease and achieve optimal health.
When emotions are effectively dealt with and processed out of the body, the stress patterns can finally be broken. The body is freed up to focus its precious energy on healing the affected body systems, and symptoms will naturally start to fade away.
Advanced Cell Training (ACT) teaches you how to train your body to identify and destroy harmful pathogens and process destructive emotions and thought patterns, all while measuring how symptoms are changing after each weekly training session. The training process is done from home by accessing a group call via phone or computer using materials we email you after each weekly call.
One advantage of being in our ACT group class is that you’re part of a supportive group of individuals going through similar health battles. You don’t have to feel alone or misunderstood. Plus, our team is here to help you through this process every step of the way.
At the core of healing chronic Lyme lies the opportunity to reframe how you perceive your life. It’s a gift that teaches you to tap into your inner strength, rediscover things about yourself, listen to what your body needs (it’s always ‘talking’ to you), and appreciate even the most trivial of tasks–things most people take for granted. You also learn to measure small successes as milestones in your recovery. These are all the unexpected gifts that accompany healing from a chronic illness.
Healing chronic Lyme disease is a deeply personal journey that is unique for every individual. It is not a linear path. It will test your courage, strength, relationships, and patience, but if you allow yourself to plunge to the deepest levels of healing and confront uncomfortable truths, you can reach a level of emotional and physical freedom you never thought possible.
We will be honored to assist you on your path to recovery from chronic Lyme and teach you how to train your body to heal on all levels–physically, emotionally, and mentally–to achieve true and lasting results. You, like many of our clients, will be able to gradually rebuild and rewrite a different story for yourself and regain the joy, abundant energy, and vibrant health that Lyme disease took away from you.
