You’ve probably investigated and experimented with a variety of alternative Lyme disease treatments, natural Lyme disease treatments, and holistic Lyme disease treatments. But, have you explored how the power of mind over matter can heal your body?
Now, we’re not saying that Advanced Cell Training (ACT) relies on mind over matter (your body can restore health regardless of whether or not you believe in it), nor are we suggesting you take up hypnotherapy or meditation. But rather, we’re pointing out that your inner dialogue works in concert with your biology to influence healing, and can either work for you or against you.
Anyone dealing with Lyme disease can relate to the unbridled fear and worry that can take over when living with a chronic condition. The mind is constantly in search of answers to why you got sick, how long it will take to get better, what treatment you should do next, how every aspect of your life is impacted by the illness, and how to navigate the maze of talking to loved ones about your condition in a way they can understand. Add to that, a dash of self-loathing, guilt, shame, depression, and a cornucopia of other emotions–it’s exhausting!
While the mind has good intentions and seeks to figure a way out of this mess, its survival instincts, at times, can be detrimental to one’s recovery and can limit your healing potential, or even delay the healing process.
On the other hand, by taking control of your thoughts (not letting fear-based ones take over) and shifting your mentality to productive, solution-finding, positive outcomes–as you will learn in this article–it can greatly influence your healing and set you on the track for faster recovery.
Medical studies back the notion of the mind’s pivotal role in healing. In fact, some researchers argue that what you think about your illness matters just as much, if not more, in determining health outcomes than the severity of the illness itself.
Let that soak in for a second.
In the February 2012 issue of the journal by the Association for Psychological Science entitled Patients’ Perceptions of Their Illness, the study’s’ authors found that people’s perceptions of their illnesses were intrinsically linked to:
Furthermore, the study suggests that their belief systems about what caused the illness, how long they thought it would last, and what impact the illness would have on loved ones all guided patients’ decisions and health outcomes. For example, if a patient had a preconceived belief that a certain treatment wouldn’t help them, they were less likely to see favorable results from that treatment.
Other research studies support the idea of how deeply intertwined the mind and body are. Their findings suggest that our mental perception guides our immune system and determines how it should respond to pathogens, and can predispose individuals to certain diseases or illnesses.
Lastly, we’ve all heard stories wherein a placebo has curative effects. One such case was published by the Journal of Projective Techniques, involving a man in 1957 who was given a pill for a cancerous tumor and told it would cure him but, unbeknownst to him, it was a placebo. A short while later, the tumor shrank dramatically. After learning it was nothing more than a sugar pill, it grew back to its original size. The experiment was repeated with another sugar pill and he was told it would, in fact, cure him. The same results were achieved–shrank to half its size–before doctors, again, revealed the truth to the man who died the following day. This is a prime example of how the brain is arguably one of the most powerful tools we have at our disposal when it comes to our health, and it should be used wisely.
Given this understanding that our physiology follows the marching orders of our minds, one should use extreme caution in the kinds of thoughts that are allowed to grow, and only nurture the ones that are conducive to healing. Allowing unhealthy mindsets to fester will only give them permission to take up residence.
The mind’s belief plays a big factor in healing. Therefore, it cannot be overstated that when your mind is onboard with the healing process, your body follows suit and big breakthroughs start to occur. We’ve witnessed this on countless occasions when clients get that “ah-ha” moment. They give up the mental tug-of-war, realizing they’ve been fighting themselves and creating undo stress the entire time. This is when the real healing happens.
It’s also a great reminder that the only limitations to healing are the ones we convince ourselves are real. By choosing to change our mindset, it can all change in an instant. The mind is that powerful.
Our clients measure their progress each week by submitting a weekly email update report before their next class. This encourages them to track their improvements and gains or victories each week. Also, monitoring their symptom reductions acts as a catalyst in changing their mindsets to supporting the belief that they can, in fact, heal despite years of being sick and failed treatments.
Keeping with the idea that we create more of what we focus on, this practice of celebrating each success, however big or small, paves the way for much bigger gains. It sways the mind to look for what’s going right instead of fixating on what’s going wrong, which can lead to faster healing.
First, we’ll tell you what ACT isn’t. It isn’t about reciting feel-good affirmations to convince your body or subconscious that it’s worthy of healing, nor is it a new-age practice or a placebo effect.
In 1999, ACT’s founder, Gary Blier, devised a self-healing method to clue the body into what it’s doing wrong and to train it for health using “training codes,” consisting of a series of letters and numbers (or frequencies). During the once-weekly class that you do from home, you will listen to or read the codes, and your brain interprets them, sort of like an instruction manual, and signals the body to follow orders. You could say they act as guideposts, showing your body how to correct certain “misbehaviors.”
Medical authorities agree that the body’s internal misbehaviors are the root cause of most chronic symptoms. For example, any allergic symptom is the result of the body overreacting to an otherwise harmless substance. In fact, respected medical organizations, such as the Mayo Clinic and Johns Hopkins, affirm that autoimmune symptoms are the result of the immune system waging an attack against the body.
Studies have also been conducted on HIV-infected individuals who are living without symptoms, despite coming into contact with a potentially life-threatening pathogen. The research determined the body creates symptoms only when the immune system fails to respond properly.
ACT participants are successfully correcting many of the body’s symptom-causing misbehaviors and replacing dependencies on alternative and traditional approaches to health freedom.
Not only is this method completely safe, it doesn’t require pills or machines to get results. ACT relies on the power of your mighty brain to recognize and go after Lyme bacteria, co-infections, and to address underlying emotional issues or unhealthy thought patterns that keep you sick.
